A delegation of representatives from five Chinese universities was on campus Nov. 6 and 7 to sign agreements articulating ways to further advance existing education collaborations.
The agreements increased NAU’s partnership with the China Center for International Educational Exchange program in China, including the Sino-American 1+2+1 Dual Degree Program, which NAU has participated in since 2004.
“We are delighted to be here to take the necessary steps to expand the number of students participating in the 1+2+1 program,” said Su Sanqing, head of the delegation and president of Xi’an University of Science and Technology.
In the “1+2+1” program, Chinese students can complete their freshman year at one of the Chinese partner universities. In the second and third year of the program, the students travel to the United States to complete their sophomore and junior years at NAU. The students return to China for their fourth year, earning dual degrees from NAU and their home university.
The agreements also include fostering faculty exchange and language training, graduate programs and research collaborations. Part of the exchange with China includes providing opportunities for NAU students to study there as well.
“NAU is working with the Chinese delegates to broaden the scope for both universities to increase learning in a global environment,” said Liz Grobsmith, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.
