- At the 2010 Academic Affairs Winter Meeting last month, Harvey Charles, vice provost for the Center for International Education, presented “Initiating and Managing the 1+2+1 Program: Principles to Follow, Strategies That Work,” and Liz Grobsmith, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, presented “Deepening Your Campus’ Commitment to Global Learning.” Charles also presented “Global Learning and Essential Learning Outcomes: The Mechanics of Engaging Faculty and Advancing Global Learning on the Campus” at the annual meeting of the Association of International Education Administrators last week.
- Ken Lorek, the Ralph M. Bilby Professor of business administration, had an article titled, “The Predictive Ability of Quarterly Cash-flow Models,” co-authored with G. Lee Willinger, accepted for publication in the spring 2010 issue of the Journal of Theoretical Accounting Research.
- Joelle Clark, professional development coordinator for the Department of Anthropology, co-authored a chapter, “Native American Heritage Values: Building Curriculum, Building Bridges” in a new publication from Left Coast Press called Heritage Values: The Past In Contemporary Society. Margaret Heath, chief heritage education manager for the Bureau of Land Management, was the chapter’s co-author.
Rosemary Papa, the Del and Jewell Lewis Chair in the College of Education, edited and helped write the new book Technology Leadership for School Improvement. College of Education colleagues Shadow W. J. Armfield, Michael Blocher, Ric Brown, Cynthia Conn, Mary Dereshiwsky,Lawrence Gallagher, Laura Sujo-Montes, Rosemary Papa and Chih-Hsiung Tu also contributed chapters to the text that explores data-driven decision making and technology standards.
Rosemary Papa, the Del and Jewell Lewis Chair in the College of Education, edited and helped write the new book - Six undergraduate students co-presented a session at the 22nd annual National Collegiate Leadership Conference in Tucson on Feb. 20. The students are Native American Student Services ambassadors and peer mentors Justine Chaco, Evan Leyva, Eudora Redhouse, Andrew Sarracino, Marisa Seutopka and Steven Tallas. Their session was titled “Save the Drama for Your Mamma: Leading Your Team Away from Negative Group Dynamics,” which gave participants strategies for overcoming negative communication within groups or teams. More than 600 college students from across the country and abroad attended the conference. The NAU students’ trip was sponsored by the Ak-Chin Indian Community through Native American Student Services.
- Patrick Hannon, associate professor emeritus of biology, co-authored with Kerry Knapp the book, Forensic Biomechanics, published by Lawyers and Judges Publishing Co. Hannon also published a chapter, “Forensic Biomechanics-Motor Vehicle Accidents,” in The Claim Adjuster’s Automobile Liability Handbook, and was selected as a research paper reviewer and to serve a three-year term on the associate board of editors for the new international journal, The Journal of Forensic Biomechanics. Hannon is one of approximately 10 reviewers nationwide.
