- Patricia Murphey, assistant professor of Visual Communication, published “Practical Learning in the VisualDESIGNLab: Designing for Clients in an Undergraduate Academic Environment” in Design Principles and Practices: An International Journal (Vol. 4: Issue 4). The article describes the School of Communication’s VisualDESIGNLab that Murphey began as a place for students to relate their theoretical knowledge of design to the practical demands of working with actual clients from the community.
- Natalie Cawood, lecturer for the department of Sociology and Social Work, had her peer-reviewed article, “Barriers to the use of evidence-supported programs to address school violence,” published in the journal Children and Schools.
- Kathleen Day, an adviser in Extended Campuses and pastor of Campus Christian Ministry, and Rebecca Campbell, director of Academic Transition Programs and associate professor of Education Psychology, are in Honduras leading a study abroad service learning project. The team of seven is building a house in Danli and another in La Jagua through Sierra Service Project.
The all-women group was inspired by last year’s NAU Reads book, Enrique’s Journey, and are visiting sites described in the book.
Ashley Lynn and Courtney Patterson, two peer instructors for NAU freshman transition classes are updating a blog about the 10-day trip.
