Northern Arizona University’s total summer enrollment, including both graduate and undergraduate students, grew 4.7 percent to 8,704 students.
“The largest increases in enrollments were in the colleges of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences, Health and Human Services and Social and Behavioral Sciences,” said Ron Pitt, associate provost. “These numbers indicate that summer school is becoming an integral part of many students’ academic experience.”
Undergraduate enrollment for summer sessions climbed 16 percent this year to 5,291 students. The number of students taking online summer classes rose from 1,581 last summer to 1,742 students this summer. Non-resident numbers also jumped 19.8 percent from 1,362 to 1,632 students.
“The jump in summer online course participation shows us that our increase in online courses is helping students meet their education needs,” said Fred Hurst, vice president for Extended Campuses. “We’ve increased the availability of more web courses for students to take no matter where they are spending their summer.”
