Television Services is on the edge of its seat, waiting to hear if its four recent Emmy Award nominations will translate into the department’s first-ever Emmy Awards next month.
The Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences announced the NAU department’s nominations last week.
Jesse Vaughan, nine-time Emmy Award recipient and executive producer for Television Services, was nominated in the Best Education/Schools Program category for his work on the documentary, Spoken Word. Sharing in the nomination are Nicole Walker, professor and coordinator of the creative writing program, videographer Erik Sather, and electronic media and film students Cedric Owens and Vernon Richardson, who helped conceive the show. Owens and Richardson are the first students in the chapter’s history to be nominated for an Emmy.
The documentary premiered at NAU in April, and features students in Walker’s creative writing class sharing their poetry on topics ranging from drug addiction to molestation.
Vaughan and the Spoken Word also were nominated for Outstanding Editing and Best Sound.
Graphics designer Chris Boyes received his first Emmy nomination in the Graphic Arts/Animation category for a compilation of his work at Television Services.
Winners will be announced at a ceremony Oct. 24 in Phoenix.
