We are fortunate to have expertise here on campus at this time of rapid change in the impact of technology on educational approaches. Our history with online courses and degree programs, technology-enhanced course redesign and the support provided by our e-Learning Center has built a great foundation for moving ahead further and faster.
Later this month, the potential impacts of technology will be highlighted in the 2013 edition of the Southwest Institute for Learning with Technology, or SILT, offered annually by our e-Learning colleagues.

On Thursday afternoon, Feb. 21, the conference will kick off with an overview of the potential impacts of blended learning on our campus and a keynote address by Norm Vaughan of Mount Royal University, Calgary. Vaughan is a well-known expert on using technology to improve student learning. Friday, Feb. 22, features a full day of presentations from NAU faculty and staff on the results they’ve been achieving in their own classes and programs.
Please be sure to register for the conference here.
I’m particularly looking forward to the updates from faculty who have been funded by the President’s Technology Initiative. The first round of projects was funded nearly a year ago, and the second round just a couple of months ago. The third round of funding is open; see the program description and RFP.
I’m eager to hear what the experience has been so far and how some of our innovative colleagues are tackling tough challenges such as application of technology to the humanities or laboratory courses.
This should be a great chance to learn more about how technology can improve student learning–our primary commitment.
