From a haunted house and dance class to yummy Halloween treats and costume contests, choose between a monstrous variety of spooky and fun events for students, faculty and staff happening this Halloween at NAU.
This year, the campus shuttle service is extending its hours Halloween night so participants can travel safely to various events. A shuttle will be running from 7 p.m. to midnight between the Skydome and the University Fieldhouse.
- For some scary fun, the men of Taylor Hall present their annual haunted house from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 28-30 and 7 p.m. to midnight Oct. 31 in the University Union Fieldhouse. The Hauted House is geared toward students high school age or older and costs $5 to enter or $4 with a can of food.
- The Bilby Research Center is holding its ninth annual two-mile foot race beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31. The event is free and open to the public, with special team categories for NAU departments. The route circles south campus and ends at the Bilby Research Center. There will be treats at the end and a prize drawing for all finishers. For details on the race and to register, visit nau.edu/bilby.
- The 12th annual Halloween Extravaganza will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in the du Bois Center Ballroom. NAU faculty and staff are invited to bring their children to this free event to enjoy a safe and fun night featuring treats, games and more.
- Work off that Halloween candy with a Zumba class at the Recreation Center from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and participate in a costume contest. The class is a mixture of body sculpting movements with easy-to-follow dance steps for anyone with or without dance experience. Zumba is a fusion of Latin and international music and dance themes.
- This year’s Halloween Hangout at the Hot Spot, hosted by student-run television station UTV62, will begin at 4 p.m. on Halloween in the University Union. Students are encouraged to participate in spooky games and contests, including a monster building contest, a cakewalk called “The Graveyard Crawl,” a ghost yodeling contest and a costume contest for a chance to win prizes.
- At South Dining in the DuB, students have the chance to enter a pumpkin-carving contest for prizes such as Snowbowl passes, gift certificates, dining dollars and more. The pumpkins will be displayed in the DuB, and winners will be chosen on Halloween.
- The Master of Arts in Sustainable Communities is hosting an open house from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Halloween to announce their change of name from Master of Liberal Studies to the Master of Arts in Sustainable Communities. The event will be held in Social and Behavioral Sciences West, room 202, Faculty Lounge. Those who attend will have the chance to meet faculty and staff and gather information on the programs and the upcoming One Community Sustainable Living Lecture series. The event also features a raffle with various prizes, Halloween décor and costumes.
