Flagstaff to host 2025 NASPAA Global Conference

NASPAA 2025 Global Conference

Northern Arizona University will host the 2025 Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) Global Conference on Oct. 8-10, bringing together scholars, practitioners and students for three days of panels, workshops and dialogue focused on building more effective and resilient public institutions.

The conference is a collaborative effort between NAU’s Master of Public Affairs Program, Arizona State University’s School of Public Affairs and the University of Arizona’s School of Government and Public Policy.

“We are incredibly fortunate to co-host this global conference with ASU and UA,” said Sara Rinfret, professor and MPA director. “This is a commendable example of three universities coming together to support public service, which is exciting for our state and profession. This event will help advance our mission of career readiness and for our students.”

Shannon Portillo, director of ASU’s School of Public Affairs, said the conference is a great way to feature NAU’s commitment to public service and career readiness.

“Collaborating with NAU and UA to bring NASPAA’s global conference to our state aligns well with our mission and provides the opportunity to demonstrate the leadership our state can provide in the future of public service education,” Portillo said.

More than 500 individuals are expected to attend the conference, and even more will see the benefits of this event.

“We are confident this collaborative spirit is to the benefit of the state of Arizona and our collective preparation of a first-class public service workforce for all corners of the state,” said Alex Braithwaite, director of UA’s School of Government and Public Policy.

NAU’s president, José Luis Cruz Rivera, is scheduled to welcome attendees and kick off the conference. Keynote speakers this year are Lynn Malerba, chief of the Mohegan Tribe and former U.S. Treasurer, and Steve Peru, former Coconino County manager and NAU alumnus.

“Conference goers will learn more about tribal governance and teaching from real-life practitioners,” Rinfret said. “They will also have the opportunity to experience the beautiful Southwest and what it has to offer, as we are including a variety of excursions for them.”

Attendees can participate in guided excursions to Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, the Grand Canyon and Sedona, as well as yoga sessions and run groups. Free childcare will be available.

The 2025 NASPAA Global Conference will take place Oct. 8-10 at the NAU High Country Conference Center. The deadline to register is Sept. 26. For more information, visit the website.
