As Northern Arizona University welcomes new and returning students, it is time, once again, to think about the outstanding involvement, leadership and service of its Fall 2022 graduating seniors. Since 1933, the Gold Axe Award has been a distinguishing symbol of merit for impending graduates that recognizes the remarkable energy and passion they have poured into the university. Award recipients are gifted a Gold Axe pin courtesy of NAU and the undergraduate student government (ASNAU), and they will forever be able to claim this honor on their resume and curriculum vitae.
Gold Axe Award applications open at the beginning of each semester with award distribution occurring prior to the Winter and Spring graduation ceremonies. Gold Axe Award recipients also become eligible for an award considered to be the university’s highest student recognition: the President’s Prize.
“The Gold Axe Awards are one of my favorite campus events as it amplifies the importance of involvement,” said Michelle Gardner, the director of the Office of Leadership & Engagement. “It also recognizes the immense contributions these students have made at NAU and in the community. As a 2008 Gold Axe recipient, I am honored to lead the selection efforts for this prestigious award.”
The deadline for the Fall 2022 Gold Axe Award application is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23. Faculty and staff are encouraged to urge students displaying exceptional involvement and leadership to apply.
