NAU to offer domestic partner tuition assistance

NAU will offer tuition assistance for domestic partners of eligible NAU faculty and staff and their dependent children effective with the spring semester beginning in January.

NAU’s tuition assistance program only extends to classes taken at Northern Arizona University. This follows the state of Arizona’s implementation of domestic partner coverage for health and life insurance benefits, available as of Oct. 1, to NAU’s eligible faculty and staff.

University administrators believe that tuition assistance to domestic partners and their eligible dependents will contribute favorably to NAU’s ability to recruit and retain quality faculty and staff in a competitive marketplace while having only a minimal impact on NAU’s budget.

Eligibility for tuition assistance will be determined by Human Resources in alignment with criteria established by the state of Arizona for domestic partner/dependent insurance benefits. More information about the procedures for applying for this assistance will be available in early December on the NAU Human Resources web site.

The Arizona Board of Regents’ Educational Aid program for employees and their eligible dependents provides tuition reduction but does not extend to domestic partners. The newly offered tuition assistance for domestic partners and dependent children is a separate program from the ABOR educational assistance program, but the assistance amounts will be similar.
