Long-time English professor dies

Lawrence Martin Davis, who taught English at NAU from 1963 through 1986, died April 22. He was 83.

Born in Bisbee in 1924, Dr. Davis attended high school in Winslow and college at Arizona State College, now NAU, where he earned two undergraduate degrees. He received a doctorate degree from the University of Arizona.

For several years, Dr. Davis was chairman of the of the Republican Party for Coconino County. He served two tours of duty in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Maxine Elenore Davis. He is survived by children: Kerry Stutzman (Gary) of Scottsdale, John Davis (Shelly) of Sedona and Leslie Dytko (Kelly) of Gilbert, and four grandchildren.
