Flagstaff drivers accessing Interstate 40 westbound from Interstate 17 northbound will need to allow extra travel time starting April 9, as crews will be working on bridge deck replacement and repair work at the I-17 and I-40 interchange in Flagstaff near Northern Arizona University.
The project will replace three bridge decks and approach slabs, increase the bridge cross slopes and retrofit one bridge deck with an overlay. Crews also will complete guardrail and paving work.
The interchange ramp will be closed April 9 through December. Drivers will be detoured to I-40 eastbound, exiting at Butler Road to access the westbound freeway.
Additionally, on April 12, one lane in each direction of Beulah Boulevard under I-17 will be closed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Expect delays to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
Here’s what drivers can expect:
- Day and night construction seven days a week
- One-direction, overnight closures on Beulah Boulevard beneath I-40
- Rolling night-time closures of I-17
- Ramp closures
- Two-week closures of I-17 southbound to I-40 eastbound ramp at the end of June, end of July and end of October.
Closure schedules are subject to change based on weather and other unforeseen factors. For more project information visit www.azdot.gov/FlagstaffTI. For updated traffic information, follow ADOT on Twitter @ArizonaDOT or call 511.
