Regents’ professors

This is the highest rank a faculty member can achieve. Tenured NAU faculty and the president recommend professors to the Arizona Board of Regents, who then approve the selection. No more than 3% of faculty have achieved this rank. Regents’ professors are among the elite in their fields and represent the breadth and depth of groundbreaking research and scholarship that happens at NAU.

  • Catherine Gehring, Department of Biological Sciences and Center for Adaptable Western Landscape, who, in more than 25 years at NAU, has expanded our understanding of the plant microbiome in order to help restore imperiled ecosystems; trained and mentored many students; and worked to educate the public on the important ecosystems of the American Southwest.
  • Heidi Wayment, Department of Psychological Sciences, who in her more than 25 years at NAU has been a trailblazer in the areas of personality and social psychology and, in addition to mentoring students, leading her department and contributing to the creation of the interdisciplinary health Ph.D. program, is a fellow in the Society of Experimental Social Psychologists, the society of Personality and Social Psychology and the Association of Psychological Sciences.
