- Senior cross country runner Tyler Day was named the Big Sky Conference Cross Country Male Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after his performance at the Wisconsin Pre-Nationals. Day performed well individually and as a team member, helping the Lumberjacks win the Pre-Nationals crown with 41 points.
- Computer science capstone students Claudia Coronel, Samantha Earl and Gwen Morris received a $30,000 grant from State Farm to develop a gesture-based engagement station for STEM recruiting in grades K-12. The interactive interface will encourage students to pursue STEM careers with things like games and resume tips appropriate to different age groups. The capstone team, SciKids, is working on the project with the College of the Environment, Foresty, and Natural Sciences Career Development Center. A prototype will be demonstrated at the 2019 UGRADS Symposium in April.
- Senior men’s cross country runner Peter Lomong was featured in Sports Illustrated magazine. Lomong is part of the “Faces in the Crowd” segment that highlights amateur athletes and their impact on the world of sports. In his time at NAU, Lomong has helped the Lumberjacks athletics program win its first two national championships at the NCAA Division I level and has been named Big Sky Conference Male Athlete of the Week twice.
