Northern Arizona University students of Museum Studies, Asian Art and other cultural and historical areas now have the opportunity to put their hands on an extensive Asian art collection—without the white gloves.
The Arthur M. Sackler Foundation Study Collection has opened at the NAU Art Museum and provides access to NAU students and scholars to examine, evaluate and analyze more than 200 works of Asian art. The objects are on long-term loan to the museum from the Arthur M. Sackler Foundation.
Elizabeth A. Sackler, the foundation’s board of directors president, presented the collection and ceremoniously cut the ribbon Oct. 30.
The foundation was established in 1965 by Arthur M. Sackler, a medical doctor who died in 1987. The foundation lends art from its collection of more than 1,000 works to museums, organizes traveling exhibitions, and has published eleven scholarly catalogs.
