The 20th Annual Warm Clothing Drive, sponsored by Northern Arizona University’s Classified Staff Advisory Council (CSAC), in partnership with the NAU Student Philanthropy Council, is being held from Oct. 1 to Oct. 31.
This is an opportunity to donate new and gently used clothing items for all ages and genders. Organizers hope to collect heavy coats, gloves, sweaters, hats, blankets, socks and jeans.
In addition to clothing, the drive is accepting soups and non-perishable food items to support Louie’s Cupboard, the on-campus food pantry created to assist students with food costs while in school.
“Our goal for this year is purely and simply to collect as much needed items—warm clothing and food—for the NAU and Flagstaff communities,” said Anthony Caniglia, CSAC president and program coordinator for admissions. “With the pandemic occurring, this has created even more of a need of these items to assist individuals and families with hardships they may be facing during this time.”
Last year, the drive collected 1,951 pieces of clothing and 595 grocery items. Donated items will benefit Flagstaff Shelter Service, Sunshine Rescue Mission, Hope Cottage, Northland Family Center and Sharon Manor.
“I would encourage all of our students, faculty and staff to participate in this program if they can,” Caniglia said. “Even one piece of clothing or one can of food can go a long way in helping someone else.”
Donation boxes have been placed in campus buildings for convenient drop-off locations.
