Northern Arizona University will once again host “The Nutcracker,” presented by the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra and NAU Community Music and Dance Academy Ballet Troupe. Music director and conductor Charles Latshaw leads the orchestra in Tchaikovsky’s iconic musical score, while the dancers’ choreography creates a visual delight. Together, the groups breathe life into the whimsical adventure that is a beloved Christmas classic.
“The Nutcracker” is the tale of a young girl’s enchanted experience on Christmas Eve as her nutcracker prince comes to life and leads a battle against the evil Mouse King. Toy soldiers, sugar plum fairies and a magical land of sweets, all set against the backdrop of Tchaikovsky’s music, help make this one of the most famous ballets of all time and a Flagstaff holiday tradition.
Evening performances take place at the Ardrey Memorial Auditorium 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 and Dec. 1. Audience members have the opportunity to speak with the conductor and featured soloists before performances beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Ticket prices for evening performances range from $20-$74 based on seating location. Student, military, educator, group and senior discounts are available when purchasing tickets offline.
Tickets can be purchased at the NAU Central Ticket Office in the University Union, or by calling (928) 523-6661. Tickets also can be purchased at the door with an extra $2 charge.
Free parking is available in lot 13 behind Ardrey Memorial Auditorium or for a fee in the Knoles parking garage (P96A). Parking maps can be viewed online.
