Northern Arizona University has been selected to participate in a national initiative designed to help students thrive during their first year.
NAU, alongside 43 other state colleges and universities, joined the American Association of State Colleges and Universities three-year project titled “Re-imagining the First Year of College,” which aims to transform the freshman experience.
According to AASCU, students are more likely to drop out during their first year than at any other point in their college career.

Cyndi Banks has been named dean of University College, Provost Laura Huenneke announced Thursday.
Banks had been serving as interim dean since July. When University College was established as a formal unit in summer 2012, Banks filled the role of associate dean, assisting in the college’s initial organization, strategic planning and program design, and development of faculty and staff.

Building on established academic and research ties, Northern Arizona University joins eight other U.S. colleges and universities participating in the 2012 Myanmar initiative of the International Academic Partnership Program.
The program, an initiative of the Institute of International Education, aims at rebuilding higher education capacity in the country, beginning with strategic planning and the development of institutional partnerships.
