  • Jacob Coutts, undergraduate senior, recently traveled to the Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Symposium in Washington, D.C, to present his research on the meditating role of self-concept clarity in the relationship between self-compassion and its benefits. To present at the REU Symposium, students must be nominated by the principal investigator of their summer research project and selected through a competitive application process. Coutts was one of the nine students chosen to present within the NSF Division of Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences.
  • Two groups of civil engineering students participated in the 2017 Arizona Pavements/Materials Conference and Student Poster Competition on Nov. 15 and 16.  Amal Abdelaziz and Matt Snyder won first place in the Graduate Student category for their research on vehicle-based sensors in assessing highway pavement conditions due to temperature changes. Seniors Kenya Avina, Joshua Barger and Mitchell Adam Geier were awarded first place in the Undergraduate Student category. Their research was on the use of cold-weather simulation to analyze concrete-rock interface behavior. Their research was supervised by Chun-Hsing (Jun) Ho, assistant professor of civil engineering.

  • Junior Tatiana Kurach was NAU’s top diver this weekend, as well as the top diver in the Western Athletic Conference. Kurach was honored following her performance during NAU’s Lumberjack Diving Invitational, where she was one of only two divers to place in the top seven in all three events. She has received the Diver of the Week award three times in her career.
  • Fifteen Lumberjack football players were awarded with All-Big Sky Honors last week. Sophomore quarterback Case Cookus, senior wide receiver Elijah Marks, senior offensive tackle Tyler Shank and junior safety Wes Sutton were named All-Big Sky Conference First Team choices. Sophomore cornerback Kahlil Dorsey and junior safety Kam’ron Johnson were selected to the All-Big Sky Second Team Defense, and senior center Blake Porter and junior running back Cory Young were honored as All-Big Sky Third Team Offensive choices. Senior defensive tackle James Walton was slotted as a Third Team All-Big Sky Defense selection. NAU’s All-Big Sky Honorable Mention honorees included offensive tackle Cole Habib, running back Joe Logan, defensive end Clarence Smith, linebacker Byron Evans, linebacker Taylor Powell and cornerback Maurice Davidson.
