  • David Nykodym, graduate student in the Department of Geography, Planning and Recreation, used crowdsourced GIS mapping data to advocate for disability rights. His thesis, “Mapping Inclusion: Accessibility Advocacy for People with Disabilities Using GIS Crowdsourced Data,” identified problems with access to the street network and locating restrooms which are accessible and gender neutral. His work has been featured by the Associated Press and in ArcUser Magazine.
  • Two doctoral students received language learning grants sponsored by English professor Okim Kang for their dissertation projects. Katherine Yaw is studying Accent Familiarity Training and Mohammadreza Dalman is studying Intelligibility Instruction.
  • Senior basketball player Khiarica Rasheed was honored with the Big Sky Conference Preseason Most Valuable Player award. She is the first athlete in NAU history to earn this award or become a member of the preseason All-Big Sky Conference team.
  • Junior basketball player Cameron Shelton was named to the 2020-21 Big Sky Preseason All-Conference Team. The team is made up of six players voted on by the conference’s head coaches, sports information directors and select media members.
