Paul Dutton, far left, leads a roundtable discussion on health care at the Colton House.

Paul Dutton, executive director of NAU’s Interdisciplinary Health Policy Institute, hosted a roundtable discussion of the state of Arizona’s health care last month at Flagstaff’s historic Colton House.

“The meeting was unprecedented,” Dutton said. “Participants were the highest level state health, health care and public health officials in the state, some of whom sharply disagree. They shared the values and interests behind their positions on health care in hopes of better understanding each other.  The overriding theme of the day was the value of collaboration between the diverse sectors of health care.”

Attending from around the state were representatives from various health care sectors including University of Arizona Rural Health Office and Family and Community Medicine, St. Luke’s Health Initiatives, Phoenix Area Indian Health Service, Maricopa and Coconino County Departments of Health, W.L. Gore and Associates and the Arizona Medical Association. Arizona State Representative and chair of the Health Committee Nancy Barto also joined the forum.
