For the tenth year in a row, the Northern Arizona University women’s soccer team received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award last week, continuing the program’s strong tradition of outstanding work in the classroom.

The Team Academic Award recognizes teams that post a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. For the 2011-12 academic year, the Lumberjacks posted a  3.23 team GPA.

“It shows our commitment toward bringing in quality student-athletes to not only compete in athletic events but aspire to do well at Northern Arizona University,” said head coach Andre Luciano. “We’ve been very blessed to have great academic advisors during my tenure here, and the student-athletes have been fortunate to have faculty that care about them and that have been great mentors and role models for them in the classroom.”

The Lumberjacks were one of five Big Sky teams to receive the award.
