NAU Shrine of the Ages Choir joins forces with Saxony State Youth Choir for a night of Bach

Oct. 8, 2019

Choral singing has been a prized tradition in the German town of Leipzig, where J.S. Bach once presided over the St. Thomas School Choir. On Oct. 14, Flagstaff will be granted the rare opportunity to hear the Saxony State Youth Choir join Northern Arizona University’s Shrine of the Ages Choir in keeping the choral tradition alive. The Saxony State Youth Choir will be joined by their conductor, Ron-Dirk Entleutner, and the NAU Shrine of the Ages Choir will be under the direction of Edith Copley.

The Saxony State Youth Choir brings together young singers from every part of Saxony through the Saxony Choral Association. The singers are chosen based on their broad dynamic range and musical versatility as well as their unique, unmistakable sound. Entleutner, a former member and prefect of the St. Thomas Boys Choir, is regarded as one of the most interesting and influential conductors in Leipzig. His musical work is influenced by two emphases: The works of Johann Sebastian Bach and rarely performed choral symphonic music.

Come hear all the Saxony State Youth Choir and NAU Shrine of the Ages Choir have to offer at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Ardrey Memorial Auditorium.

Tickets for the Horizons Concert Series are $25 for adults and $17.50 for seniors and NAU faculty and staff. Admission is free for children 17 and under, as well as NAU/CCC students with an ID.
