Professor’s research used for online map of Grand Canyon geology

Donkeys traverse the canyon

A new online map released by the Arizona Geological Survey highlights geology research done by Dale Nations, Regents’ Professor emeritus.

The online map, called StoryMap, illustrates the natural history along the Bright Angel Trail of the Grand Canyon. The technology was created primarily for use by science teachers and their students.

Portions of Nations’ research collection, consisting of 35-millimeter slide images, were donated to the Arizona Geological Survey’s online map resources.

Nations, who taught at NAU from 1969 until 2000, conducted research on oil and gas resources in Arizona, coal and methane on the Navajo and Hopi Reservations and geology of the Cenozoic Era.
