President’s Distinguished Speaker Series continues with education innovator

Michael Horn

President Rita Cheng’s Distinguished Speaker Series will continue on May 1 with speaker Michael Horn. As chief strategy officer for education technology studio Entangled Ventures and a principal consultant for Entangled Solutions, Horn uses his platform to speak and write about the future of education.

As an expert of disruptive innovation, online learning, blended learning and competency-based learning, Horn works to transform the education system to be student-centered. He uses these topics to paint a vision of the transformation and future of education in his books including the award-winning book “Disrupting Class: How Disruptive Innovation Will Change the Way the World Learns.”

During his presentation, Horn will use this book to help discuss how disruptive innovation impacts education in the U.S. and abroad as well as what educators and policymakers must do to ensure its success. He also will identify the successes of this method in other countries and dissect the implications of adapting these practices in the U.S.

Horn also sits on the board and advisory boards of a range of education organizations including Fidelis Education, the National Association of Independent Schools, the Minerva Institute, Hechinger Institute and the Adult Literacy XPRIZE.

Horn will speak at 6 p.m. May 1 at the High Country Conference Center. Thanks to the support from key alumni and partners, tickets will be free for everyone and distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
