Obituary: Michael Sickinger, retired assistant comptroller

Michael SickingerMichael Sickinger, retired assistant comptroller, died Sept. 3, 2013. He was 73.

Mr. Sickinger was born on Jan. 29, 1940, and spent his early years growing up in Rudolph, Wis. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1962 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and he passed his certified public accountant examination shortly thereafter. Mr. Sickinger moved his family to Flagstaff in 1966 where he began his career as an accountant with Northern Arizona University. He remained with the university for 25 years before retiring as assistant comptroller in 1991.

Since retiring, Mr.Sickinger traveled and spent his winters relaxing on the beach in San Carlos, Mexico. He enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and spoiling his two dogs, Lucy and Andy.

Mr. Sickinger is survived by his son, Paul; grandson Daniel; brother Leigh; sisters Lynne Hintz and Claudia “Coco” Sickinger; and other family members who will miss him greatly.

In lieu of services, the family suggests a donation be made to the Arizona Humane Society in his honor.
