Obituary: Eileen Elizabeth McQuade, former dental hygiene clinical instructor

Eileen Elizabeth McQuade

Eileen Elizabeth McQuade, former dental hygiene clinical instructor, died Jan. 25, 2014, while undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer in Salt Lake City. She was 58 years old.

Ms. McQuade was born May 29, 1955, to Kenneth and Bernice McQuade of Royal Oak, Mich. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Ferris State University in 1976 and practiced dental hygiene for more than 37 years. She was an active member and past president of the Arizona State Dental Hygiene Association.

Ms. McQuade taught dental hygiene at NAU from 2002 through 2007 before starting the Aspen Dental Assisting School in Flagstaff. She was loved by her students, patients and fellow faculty members and was known for helping others achieve their highest potential.

Ms. McQuade enjoyed skiing, hiking, golf and mountain biking, as well as traveling and sailing to exotic locations with her friends and family.

Ms. McQuade is survived by her best friend and husband of 34 years, Dr. Mark Castle; sister Kathy Joannides (John) of Highland, Mich.; brother Ken McQuade Jr. (Nancy) of Hartland, Mich.; nieces Christine Swartz (Bob) of Bloomfield, Mich., Maureen Gandol (Dan) of Portland, Ore. and Jesse Kassoff (Jon) of Troy, Mich.; nephews Mike DiCapo (Chantel) of Phoenix and Brian McQuade (Jen) of Hartland, Mich.; and nine grand nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor at noon Saturday, May 3, in the Hart Prairie Lodge at Arizona Snowbowl. Donations may be sent to the Oral Cancer Foundation and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
