New duties await director of alumni relations and community outreach

Georgette Vigil

Georgette Vigil is new to Flagstaff, but she’s in familiar territory as she begins her new job as director of alumni relations and community outreach at Northern Arizona University. She begins work on Monday, June 11.

Vigil is the former executive director of alumni relations at the University of Northern Colorado, and since leaving that position in 2000 she has remained in Boulder as a customer experience manager and marketing director in private industry.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the Northern Arizona University family,” Vigil said. “Recently in Denver, I attended my first NAU alumni event and the enthusiasm and pride for the university is evident. I look forward to engaging and connecting with alumni, community and friends of NAU.”

Vigil also was a student in Greeley, Colo., earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s in communication from Northern Colorado before beginning her career.

Mason Gerety, vice president for Advancement, noted that Vigil’s position at NAU is in some ways a new one, encompassing the duties of alumni relations director while adding responsibilities for community outreach.

“It makes sense to reach out to the community through the alumni director’s office, and Georgette is the ideal person for that task,” Gerety said. “We look forward to the talent and enthusiasm she brings to the job.”
