NAU cancels SBS dean search

Northern Arizona University announced today that the search for a dean for the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences has been canceled.

“The decision is in the best interests of the students, the college and the institution,” said NAU President John Haeger. “What was already a prolonged search recently has become a disruption. We must continue to focus on educating our students.”

Haeger said the search has produced excellent candidates, but the current climate on campus presents too many obstacles to continue the process, a conclusion he reached in consultation with Provost Laura Huenneke and other senior academic leaders. Haeger said he and Huenneke will appoint a dean in the near future to lead the college following the conclusion of the current dean’s appointment.

“NAU seeks a leader to guide this important college,” Haeger said. “The faculty and students deserve nothing less than the best as they navigate higher education’s challenges and build toward future accomplishments. An outstanding dean is critical to their success.”
