Long-time Music Camp director honored

Northern Arizona University’s School of Music will honorĀ Pat B. Curry, former chair of the Department of Music and former director of NAU summer Music Camp, by naming the annual camp the Curry Summer Music Camp at NAU.

The School of Music also has established a scholarship in Curry’s name.

Curry accepted these honors during an awards presentation held at the end of the 2007 season of music camp.

The summer music camp, which Curry directed for 24 years, will welcome student musicians from across the country for the 59th consecutive year in 2008.

“I can’t imagine anyone who has had a greater impact on the musical life of this region over an extended period of time, other than Pat Curry,” saidĀ Todd Sullivan, director of the School of Music. “It’s our pleasure to acknowledge his contribution during summer music camp, an education event he invested so much into.”

Curry was the founder and director of the Flagstaff Summer Festival of the Arts, conductor of the Flagstaff Symphony Orchestra, Music Educator of the Year from the Arizona Music Educators Association, and elected Citizen of the Year of Flagstaff by the Arizona Daily Sun.

To contribute to the Pat B. Curry Music Scholarship Fund, checks should be written to the “NAU Foundation” with the memo line reading “Pat B.
