Public Radio NAUKNAU has earned three national Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio and Television News Directors Association.

Shelly Watkins, KNAU general manager, described this year’s competition as the steepest yet with more than 4,000 entries.

KNAU also was recognized for its “rare double win” in News Series and in Writing for its entry, “Building Hope in Haiti: Flagstaff Responds to Humanitarian Crisis.” The three-part series was written and produced by KNAU’s Gillian Ferris, who traveled to Haiti in 2013 with the Northern Arizona Volunteer Medical Corps.

Laurel Morales’ coverage of the Granite Mountain Hotshots tragedy earned KNAU its third award. An awards ceremony is planned for October in New York City.
