Information regarding Proposition 107

A note from the Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Opportunity

Because Proposition 107 does not apply to obligations under federal law, the university’s obligation as a federal contractor to maintain an affirmative action plan in employment remains unchanged.

Executive Order 11246 and related federal laws ensure non-discrimination in employment by requiring federal contractors to engage in good faith efforts to recruit and retain individuals who are members of groups underrepresented in the workforce, including veterans, minorities, females and individuals with disabilities. These laws do not include hiring preferences or quotas, and the obligation to hire the best qualified candidate for each and every university position remains unchanged.

Proposition 107 also does not in any manner change the Arizona and federal laws and the NAU Safe Working and Learning Environment Policy which prohibit discrimination and harassment.
