  • Donelle Ruwe, associate professor of English, presented at the International Conference on Romanticism in Tempe, Nov. 8-11. Her paper, “Sara Coleridge’s Flashcards: Theorizing Handmade Literacies and Utilitarian Verse for Children,” discussed two archives of handcrafted children’s books and teaching aids, the first by the minister’s wife Jane Johnson (1706-1759) and the second by Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s daughter, Sara Coleridge (1802-1852). These collections of handmade literacies are the earliest nursery libraries known to exist, and though they were created almost a century apart, they share surprisingly similar content as well as approaches to literacy.
  • Fred Hurst, senior vice president for NAU-Extended Campuses, recently spoke with EDTECH magazine about how NAU is working to reshape online learning through its personalized learning initiative. Watch the video here.
  • Sodexo, NAU’s contracted vendor for campus dining, has been recognized by the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes as an industry leader for its sustainability performance. Every year the indexes evaluate companies across all industry segments on their annual sustainability performance, analyzing specific economic, environmental and social criteria, including human resources development, corporate governance, risk management, climate change strategy and supply chain management. This is the eighth year in a row that Sodexo has been recognized by the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes.
