Former Lumberjacks part of diplomatic sports tour

Former Lumberjack standouts Kelly Golob and Kyle Feuerbach will participate in a nine-game basketball exhibition tour of China over the next 12 days.

The tour is a joint program between the China Sports Coalition, the Ministry of the Interior and Legacy Sports Partners, Inc.

“I am excited to get this chance to play basketball and be an ambassador for our country in China,” Golob said. “It will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I feel lucky that playing a sport that I love has given me this opportunity.”

Considered a diplomatic sports delegation, the players’ objective is to travel to the interior regions of China and promote basketball through clinics and games featuring American players, coaches and referees.

Golob will play for former Weber State coach Joe Cravens on the Western Stars team that includes former players from Weber State, Eastern Washington, Montana State, Florida International and Southern Utah.

Feuerbach is one of 10 players on the team. He recently completed the season with Thor Thorlakshofn in Iceland’s First Division, averaging 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.9 steals.

The team will be in China for 14 days, visiting Shanghai, Wujiang, Zhangjiagang, Taicang, Suzhou, Yangzhou, Xuzhou, Sihong, Nanchang and Changzou.
