Donna Mae Aurand, former adjunct professor

Donna Mae Aurand, former adjunct professor in NAU’s College of Education and wife of professor emeritus Charles Aurand, former dean of the College of Creative and Communication Arts, died Feb. 1, 2010. She was 77.

Born July 17, 1932, Dr. Aurand graduated from Flint Central High School in Michigan in 1950 and went on to earn her baccalaureate degree from Michigan State College in 1954, a master’s in Education from Youngstown State University in 1972, and a doctorate degree in education from Northern Arizona University in 1977.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Professional Educators Organization and the Resurrection Lutheran Church. She enjoyed all of the fine arts as well as bridge, golf and social contact with her many friends and relatives.

Dr. Aurand is survived by her husband, Charles; five children, Janice Hirschi, Cheryl McMillen, Sandra Burris, Charles III  and William; 12 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dr. Aurand’s name to the Charles and Donna Aurand Music Award. Checks should be made out to the NAU Foundation, Box 4094, Flagstaff, AZ 86011. Indicate that the donation is for the Aurand Music Award, fund 1273.
