Comic artist to address ‘extraordinary power’ of words and pictures

Ellen Forney

The cartoonist who helped bring to life the quirky characters in Sherman Alexie’s The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian is coming to Northern Arizona University to talk about the creative process of illustrating novels and cartoons.

Ellen Forney will bring her eccentric and outlandish talents to a lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Ardrey Auditorium. The event is part of the NAUReads program, designed to engage the campus community in conversations about the same book.

Forney will focus on her work as a successful professional cartoonist and the different types of illustrations and cartoons she creates. In addition to illustrating The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, Forney has published a graphic novel and a collection of cartoons for the Seattle Stranger

The event is free, but tickets are required and are available at Central Ticketing at NAU. The presentation may not be appropriate for younger audiences. Call (928) 523-5661 or visit nau.edu/cto.
