Cabinet highlights: March 30, 2010

President John Haeger announced he was meeting with Joe Shirley, president of the Navajo Nation, and Bill Harris, president of Science Foundation Arizona, to discuss the possibility of a partnership concerning wind energy.

Laura Jones, director of planning and institutional research, discussed the results of the 2009 Senior Survey. Here are some highlights:

  • Nearly 96 percent reported their experience to be “Excellent” or “Very good”
  • 91 percent said they would choose to attend NAU again.
  • About 95 percent rated instruction as “Excellent” or “Very Good”

Betsy Kerr, director of Employee Assistance and Wellness, presented a summary report of the office’s accomplishments and activities for the first half of fiscal year 2010.

Information Technology Services recently conducted a survey asking faculty and staff about a wide range of computing issues, including security, software and customer service. The responses were generally “Very Satisfied” and “Satisfied.” Fred Estrella, chief information technology officer, said the results show his department is “doing OK” but is always striving to improve. Athletics Director Jim Fallis summarized an outside review of the NAU Athletics Department. The report, conducted by Mellenbrook Policy Advisors of Maryland, was complimentary of NAU’s performance on and off the field. At the same time, however, it recommended 22 steps to improve the department and its contributions to the NAU mission. Read the report here.
