Biology student earns scholarship for research

Anita Antoninka, an NAU graduate student in biology, was one of 85 recipients throughout the United States and Canada awarded a $10,000 P.E.O. Scholar Award. She was one of only six award recipients in Arizona.

P.E.O. Scholar Awards are given to women who are either pursuing a graduate degree or are engaged in advanced study and research.

Antoninka is currently conducting a series of field and greenhouse experiments for her dissertation with the goal of predicting how grasslands will respond to carbon dioxide and nitrogen enrichment.

Antoninka, who received her B.S. in environmental science from NAU in ’03, hopes to earn her Ph.D. in biology by May 2008.
