A growing university

Northern Arizona University is expanding in many areas throughout the state, from Yuma to the Navajo Nation, from Kingman to Douglas and just about everywhere in between. The university and the Maricopa County Community College District are in discussions about a possible intergovernmental agreement, and some future growth will depend on the agreement.

 

Maricopa County Glendale Community College

  • a 2+2 B.S. in speech communication degree beginning in the fall. A full-time NAU faculty member will have an office on the GCC campus. Some of GCC’s full-time faculty may teach some of our upper-division courses.
  • a possible B.S. in elementary education and B.A.S. in early childhood education beginning in the fall 2007
  • a B.S. in elementary education in the southwest Valley at Garden Lakes Elementary School in the Pendergast School District that recruits GCC and Estrella Mountain Community College students. The first cohort program will begin in the fall.

Paradise Valley Community College

  • a B.S. in elementary education degree on the Paradise Valley Community College Campus. A full-time faculty member is located on campus.
  • a B.S. in business administration at PVCC beginning in the fall. A full-time, on-campus faculty member will anchor this program.
  • Distance Learning staff and professors in humanities and counseling also have offices and teach courses on campus.

Phoenix College

  • a 2+2 program for a B.S. in elementary education program at Phoenix College’s downtown City Colleges Center
  • a Distance Learning program coordinator is located on the Phoenix College campus full time. She recruits and advises for NAU’s B.S. in elementary education program.

Scottsdale Community College

  • a B.S. in hotel and restaurant management and a B.S. in interior design program on this campus. The HRM program has a full-time faculty member anchoring this program.
  • a classroom is dedicated for interactive instructional television
  • a B.S. in elementary education program through a 2+2 program in fall 2007
  • area coordinator, two advisors and support staff on campus
  • discussions under way for a modular complex on campus

Chandler Gilbert Community College

  • a full-time program coordinator located on campus to recruit, advise and coordinate academic programming
  • a B.S. in elementary education begins in the fall
  • discussions under way for a modular complex on campus

South Mountain Community College

  • a B.A.S. in early childhood education began this spring. It serves Head Start teachers who need to be certified.
  • a B.S. in elementary education degree offered in fall 2007
  • a modular complex will be established on this campus in the fall

Mesa Community College

  • discussions under way for office space on the main MCC main campus
  • discussions under way for a long-term partnership at the downtown campus
  • a bachelor of arts in liberal studies in organizational communication program at the downtown campus in the fall
  • B.A.S. in administration of justice may locate downtown by spring 2007

Pima County A B.S. in elementary education program in Tucson is based in local schools. Two cohorts began in fall 2005, and NAU has 58 applications for fall 2006. Two full-time faculty members anchor this program. NAU also offers a four-year degree program in nursing with a simulated nursing lab with four hospital beds in a Tucson Medical Center. Students get some lower-division prerequisites at Pima Community College with all nursing curriculum done at NAU.

 

Pima West

    • a B.S. in business administration with 84 students
    • a full-time faculty member from the College of Business Administration to teach, advice and

recruit. NAU is searching for a second faculty member to accommodate the growth in this program.

Pima Northwest

  • a 2+ 2 B.S. in hotel and restaurant management with a shared faculty position

Pima Community Campus

  • a B.A.S. in justice systems policy and planning, anchored by a full-time faculty member
  • a 2+2 B.S. in interior design program via ITV from Flagstaff

New NAU site (opening April 2006), 3895 N. Business Center Drive (Interstate 10 north of Prince Road)

  • will have seven classrooms, including an ITV and computer lab
  • office and conference room space
  • local advising
  • will house the Interior Design program, B.A.I.L.S. organizational communication and graduate level classes in education.
